Bus Service
General Information

Te Kowhai School offers a bus service. To be classed as ‘eligible’ for this free bus service families have to meet the criteria of being further than 3.2 kilometres from Te Kowhai School. Te Kowhai School also needs to be your closest school (i.e. if you live closer to Horotiu School than Te Kowhai School, you are not eligible for the free bus service).

NB: Bus entitlement zones do not necessarily match with school enrolment zones.

Eligible to travel free - See the map (link at bottom of this page) to see if you are in the zone and therefore eligible for free bus transport. If uncertain, please contact Kerry Crossland for clarification.

Ineligible transport option - All ineligible students may still travel on the bus but are charged at $16.00 per week regardless of the days they do or do not travel. Our school will be charged monthly in advance.

Please have all students at their pick up points 5 mins before their pick up times.

Raising Queries or Concerns
General Information

Raising Queries or Concerns

Our goal is to work as closely with you as we can to ensure that your child experiences their own personal successes at school. If at any time you have questions or concerns about their social, emotional or academic progress, feel free to raise them with your child’s teacher/s. Please don’t wait and allow the query to grow into a worry. This is not beneficial for anyone involved.

If it is something quick, we are happy for you to catch up before or after school briefly. We just ask that you be aware of bell times and the need for staff to get on with teaching and learning from 8:45 - 3:10 pm.
Ideally, sending a quick email to request a catch up is the best. This can simply state your preferred time options and a brief summary of what it relates to. This enables staff to get any information gathered for you that they may need.

If you have a more serious concern, please follow our Concerns and Complaints Procedure.
in School Docs.

Sun Safety
General Information

Sun Safety

During Term 1 and Term 4, students are required to wear their own sun hat any time they are outside. This includes before school, all classroom activities and break times. If students forget a hat, they are restricted to only playing under the shaded area beside the pavilion.

Sun block is provided in the classes and playground, however, if your child has specific requirements (i.e. sunblock allergies) they need to bring their own named supplies to school and apply at break times.

Sun Safety is taught as part of our Health and PE curriculum. We encourage appropriate clothing as well as to drink from the water fountains, which regularly have the filters changed and are checked for safe water quality.

Policy on Sun Protection.

Parking
General Information

Parking (main, over road and bus bay)

The School has worked very hard on creating a safe free-flowing space for vehicles and users. Please contribute to this by being a courteous, safe and considerate driver.

Quick Drop Off/ Pickup Zone (outside School Office)

We have very clear terms of use of this zone. Please take the time to read the signs placed by this area. Essentially drivers must remain in their drivers seat, it is a ‘pause space’ so only for brief drop off or collecting children that are already waiting. Safe awareness is paramount at all times. No parking on the broken yellow line - that causes risk out on the main road. If your child is not waiting, ready for you, please park across the road at the hall until you see them emerge.

Main Carpark

If you are getting out of your car to assist your child, please park in the main zone. You are welcome to park in this carpark for as long as you like, at any time. If it is full, you can either use the staff carpark to the right of the school office or park across the road at the hall.

Hall Carpark

You are welcome to park in the hall carpark and cross at the crossing. Our student Road Patrollers have been fully trained by the police and are overseen by staff from 3-3:10pm.
DO NOT cross at other points. Adults must model correct safe practises.

If parking along the road, keep our neighbours driveways clear in line with the legal requirement.

Bus Bay

There are two carparks in the bus bay. If these are full please park in the main carpark or across at the hall.
DO NOT park in the through path. It must be kept clear at all times for the bus to freely use.

Things to Keep at Home!
General Information

Things we’d prefer your kids to keep at home:

For health, safety and convenience reasons, we would like the following things kept at home.

- Students’ own toys and games (unless requested to be at school as part of learning)

- Mobile phones and smart watches. (if you need need to communicate with your child before or after school via one of these devices, we ask that it is given to the class teacher or office to look after during the hours of 9:00 - 3:00.
