Principal's Piece

Kia ora koutou,
I am delighted to be back at school after my sabbatical. The time away provided a valuable opportunity to study, reflect, and recharge. I am deeply grateful for this experience and excited to bring fresh perspectives and renewed energy to our school. Throughout the term, I will share relevant excerpts from my sabbatical study and professional learning.

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Nikki Willis, who stepped into the role of Acting Principal during my absence. Nikki did a fantastic job leading the school, ensuring that everything ran smoothly and our students continued to thrive. Her dedication and leadership have been truly commendable. A special thank you also goes to Justine Flynn (Acting Deputy Principal) and the rest of the Te Kōwhai Team for their hard work and unwavering support. Their commitment to our students and school community has been invaluable.
As we move into Term 3, we again see our calendar filling with more exciting learning and a range of events. You can keep track of these via our school website and Facebook page.
You will have seen that our new inquiry for the term has been launched, 'More than Medals' is the focus and covers the Health & PE area of the curriculum which fits in well with the Olympics. Ask your children what they have been learning about and enquiring into as the term progresses. Also encourage them to watch any coverage of the Olympic Games if able to.
We are seeing a huge increase in the number of requests for student leave to go on family holidays during term time. A reminder, that if your child/ren will be away longer than three days (for a holiday) this request and information needs to be emailed to me as these absences needs to be documented. Any time less than that, then email the class teachers and Kerry in the office. The Ministry of Education's new Attendance Strategy has rolled out in schools and we need this information moving forward. Email any requests to: julietd@tekowhai.school.nz
Have a great week.
