Kia ora koutou,
With the last week of the year here already, we have many events and celebrations taking place. Our Tuesday Daytime Disco was a huge hit, and such a great way for all of our students to have fun together. Today we held our Awards Celebration which is where our class awards were announced for TK PRIDE, Academic Effort and Academic Excellence. This is obviously a very difficult decision to make. Congratulations to all of this year's awardees, please see more about this within the newsletter.
As a reminder, school finishes at 1 pm this Friday 15th December.
As the school year draws to a close, I would like to extend heartfelt thanks to our students, staff and community for helping make our school the awesome place it is. We have a true little slice of paradise here in Te Kōwhai. We are extremely proud of our students' enthusiasm for learning which inspires us daily. This is also due of course to the invaluable work our staff do every day. Their commitment to education, new learning and working together in the best interests of all of your children is admirable. Thank you also to you, our families for all of your support, we appreciate it.
Our fun, annual staff thank you video is linked within this newsletter. We hope you enjoy it... disclaimer, please tell your children to do as we say, not as we do!
This is the time of year when we bid farewell to some of our staff and students as they move on to new schools, new roles, new cities or towns and even some to new countries. Firstly to our staff, we are farewelling Marcelo Sosa and Emma Tyler who are both heading to Australia to live. We wish them and their families all the best with the move. They have both had significant input into the direction and culture of our school over the last two to three years which we are thankful for. Esther Wilson is reducing her hours to relief work only as she is wanting to expand on her flower business. Karen Peter is changing roles and will be taking over Esther's role doing Classroom Release Time, Garden to Table and other release and responsibilities across the school. Naomi Howlett-Avery and Rebecca Gilberd who are currently Learning Assistants at our kura, have both completed their teacher training this year. This has been no mean feat to work and study at the same time and we are immensely proud of both of them. Rebecca has won a role at Waipa School teaching Year 2 students and Naomi has won a role at Hamilton Girls High School as a Science and Biology teacher. Over the years we have seen 3 of our Learning Assistants go on to train to be teachers which is awesome.
To our students leaving, we wish you all the best at your new schools, they are lucky to have you. With the last day of Primary School looming for our Year 8 students, we have been celebrating the success of their time here at TK throughout the week. They are awesome young people and whilst sad they are leaving, we are excited to hear about their lives beyond our school. To all of our leavers, you are always welcome to pop in to join our community events, give us updates and say hello.
From all of our staff at Te Kōwhai School, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
We look forward to seeing you back in 2024
